Activation and revocation client

After starting a protected application for the first time, a dialog will appear that prompts the user to activate the application. This dialog usually offers a language choice for the ongoing dialog. By default the language of the user’s Windows regional settings is used and in case no translation for that language exists, English will be used.

Continuing from this dialog by clicking the “Next” button will open the serial number dialog.

The user can now enter or copy and paste the product serial he received. In case of retail products, the user will need to type down the serial printed on the manual or jewel case for the product. In the case of online purchases the product serial number can be copied from a purchase confirmation Email or the online store’s customer administration website.

Proxy sub-dialog:
Only in very specific network environments, e.g. in restricted corporate networks with non-transparent proxies and firewalls, it may be necessary for the user to manually change proxy settings.  Generally most users do not need to change this setting.

Clicking on the “Proxy” button opens a sub-dialog that allows the user to edit the proxy settings according to the specific network.

Activation success or failure:
After entering the serial number and continuing by clicking “Next”, the online activation process is started automatically. This step transmits in encrypted and hashed form the product serial and characteristics of the client PC to the Solidshield activation server.

Depending on the result of the activation request, the server will either reply with a successful activation reply or a specific error message.

In the case of a successfully completed activation, the user will be notified by the following message:

Clicking on “OK” will then start the application.

Activation attempt failure messages:
In case of a failure of the activation attempt a message will be shown specifying the kind of error and possible actions the user can take to solve an issue.
In case the user entered an incorrect serial number, the following message will be shown:

The user should check the serial number he entered, specifically making sure letters and numbers that may be hard to distinguish in some print formats are typed correctly.

License revocation:
License revocation offers the possibility to remove the activation data from a client PC and increment the number of activations allowable with a product serial number, enabling him to install and activate the product on a different client PC.

Starting the executable usually named “activation.exe” in the application’s folder will show a dialog similar to the following one:

Revocation success or failure:
By clicking the “Revoke this license” button the revocation process is started automatically.

This step transmits in encrypted and hashed form the product serial number and characteristics of the client PC to the Solidshield activation server.

The server then checks for the validity of the license and applicability of revocation rules. Depending on the result of the revocation request, the server will either reply with a successful revocation reply or a specific error message.

In case of a successfully completed revocation, the user will be notified by the following message:
